I bring up Deadly Premonition here often, and it’s for good reason: You should play it
If you are a survival horror fan, Deadly Premonition has so much freaking charm and content! I’m not writing to review the game today though, I’m here for the Official Visual Companion iBook. It was released a few weeks ago at the price point of $9.99 for the iPad. Being that it’s over 300 pages worth of content I wanted to make sure I went through everything, and boy does it cover everything.
After reading the companion iBook I went back and took a few screenshots to try and show some highlights. I don’t want to show any spoilerific content so the images have been carefully selected. Oh and please ignore the time stamps on the top of the images I wasn’t able to trim the images prior to posting. O:-)
You have the obvious character bio’s, concept art, and design chapters which contains images and information on the character; plus a little spoiler section if you want to know everything about the character.
There is a nice detailed chapter revealing all of the trading cards you can find in the game, and where to find them. Being that it was built for a touch screen device it’s not set up like a regular book as it’s super interactive and you’ll have to touch icons/areas to reveal information. It also comes with a check list that you can actually check off cards to help you keep track of what you’ve found in-game. (It even marks the date you found them)
A MAP!!!!! One of the only issues I had with Deadly Premonition was the map, it was pretty difficult to move and figure out where you were. But now there is a map you can completely zoom in and out and scroll around. I could see myself using this map while playing the game. Actually, I will do that when I record a play-through. You can find everything you need with this map.
Swery’s Notebook is my favorite part of this companion book. It’s not translated, but the content seems to have been scanned directly from his personal writings, and that’s damn cool. On top of notes, theres many sketches he drew, most of which are pretty dark (but also comical somehow…). There is one page where he draws a sandwich, then lists and draws the components of said sandwich. I love it. :inlove:
There are a few videos of Swery in the book as well, some are hidden easter eggs.
By the time you get to the end you’ll know the history of the game, where places where based from, and all of Swery’s social network channels. It’s all covered in this book.
Also mini games! At the end of the book you’ll find a few more fun things to mess with like word finds, coloring pages, and (virtual) sticker pages.
Deadly Premonition The Directors Cut Official Visual Companion is a must have for fans of the game. It costs $9.99 and is well worth it. You can buy it from iTunes here
